Tell us about yourself:
I’m originally from the Bay Area and moved to Ventura in 1997. My wife, Sierra, and I have now been married for 25 years. We have 2 young adult kids who are adulting on their own now so we are empty nesters. Our family loves to travel and we are blessed that our kids still want to hang out with us.
What do you do for a job?
I still pastor the church my wife and I started with a group of friends back in 2007. Catalyst Church in Santa Paula. I also get the honor of working with other church planters and pastors from around the country through our network of churches. I love what I do!
Tell us something people might not know about you:
I was a professional in-line (Rollerblade) stunt and street skater in college.
What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
I’ve always been active in various sports but was looking for something new that was challenging and competitive. I mentioned trying Crossfit to my wife and she bought me a Groupon for a Crossfit gym years ago on my birthday so I could give it a shot. The rest is history!
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
I felt intimidated, humbled and excited. I’d never moved a barbell, used a jump rope, or back squatted before and all these people knew what they were doing. After doing Crossfit for so long now, I’m not intimidated anymore. But I am still excited and humbled at every class.
What was your first “Bright Spot?”
My first ring muscle up was easily my first bright spot. It had been a goal for years and I was so stoked that I was able to finally do it.
What are you working on now?
Linking my bar muscle ups.
What’s your favorite BeachSide CrossFit memory?
I love the Open every year at Beachside! Celebrating everyone’s accomplishments on the floor while engaging in mutual suffering is always so much fun!
