December 2025 – Vanessa Olmos

Tell us about yourself:
Hi everyone! I’m Vanessa and you can usually find me at 5:30 pm class! I’m from Santa Paula, but I can’t claim “born and raised” because I was actually born on an Air Force Base. Shortly after that my parents moved back to Santa Paula to be closer to family. Growing up, my brother and I were always involved in some sort of extracurricular activity, so we were always on the go with something! I’m very fortunate to be very close with my family, so I’m usually doing something with them. But most people probably know me as that girl who’s a 49ers fan!

What do you do for a job?

I work in Human Resources for the Pleasant Valley School District. There is never a dull day in education!

Tell us something people might not know about you:
I was a pretty avid volleyball player growing up. I played year round and even coached a high school team for a couple of years. I’m also pretty involved in the community. Growing up, we’d have to do community service for school, and that’s something that has stuck with me into adulthood, and has evolved in to being on a few commissions/committees in Santa Paula.

What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?

Well, my mom started doing CrossFit, then my younger brother did, so I thought if they’re doing it, I can, too!

What was your first impression? How has that changed?

Like most people, I thought it was intimidating! Over time, the intimidation factors melted away because of the encouragement from awesome coaches and friends.

What was your first “Bright Spot?”

I think my first bright spot was the first time I deadlifted 200 pounds, at the time, it seemed impossible, and I never thought I’d lift anything that heavy ever! Now I see how far I’ve come, and am looking forward to the next goal!

What are you working on now?

I’d like to get an unassisted pull up or rope climb.

What’s your favorite BeachSide CrossFit memory?

Besides the open (because those are always great), would have to be working out as the same time as either my mom or brother when they would workout at Beachside.
