My name is Alissa, I’m 42 years old, married with two kiddos and one dog. I grew up in northern California and moved to Ventura about 11 years ago because I met a cute firefighter – luckily that worked out!
What do you do for a job?
I have a degree in Graphic Design and worked doing corporate design before becoming a stay-at-home-mom.
Tell us something people might not know about you:
I love to quilt – I belong to a local quilt guild and have been sewing for more than half my life.
What first brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
In 2016, I saw an ad for a 6-week women only CrossFit challenge at BSCF, I thought I’d give it a shot. Two days after the 6 week challenge ended, I learned I was pregnant with our second kiddo and decided not to continue, but always knew I’d come back!
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
I loved it right away. I loved that I was learning something new and that it wasn’t mindless exercise. I loved the idea of lifting weights and feeling stronger thank I had in the past. I assumed there would be a lot of things that I would never be able to do and I guess that’s the only thing that’s changed the longer I’m at BSCF, I realize that there things I can’t do now, but that I’m capable of so much more than I expected and if there is something I want to accomplish, with the help of the amazing coaches, I can get there if I put in the work.
What was your first “bright spot”?
I’m not sure what my first one was, but I was was pretty shocked and overly excited the first time I managed a double under. More recently, I was excited that I managed my first lift over 200lbs.
What are you working on now?
Nothing really specific, just overall improvement – seeing if I can beat previous workout times or weight.
What’s your favorite Beachside CrossFit memory?
Going to the first Open at the gym. I had been too nervous to sign up and instantly regretted it when I saw how much support there was between all the teams for every level and how amazing this BSCF community is.
