ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

March 2020 – Dolores Ramirez

Tell us about yourself:
I am a Ventura native born and raised. I moved briefly for school for about two years but switched majors and now I am currently working on getting into nursing school. I been pretty active most of my life. I ran cross country and track while in high school and continued to run after while going to LA Fitness.

What do you do for a job?
I work down the street from Beachside at an online auction warehouse called HAGGLEBIDS. I do many things such as listing items, inputting descriptions on an excel sheet, resizing pictures and loading all that info to the auction website. I also do the invoicing and help with customer orders.

Tell us something people might not know about you:
I am not sure if everyone knows this, but my name is Dolores, but Lolita is the nickname I grew up being called by my family and friends. Some people call me Loli because its simplified, but I don’t have a preference, I answer to all.

What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
I decided to join CrossFit at a time where I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. I wanted to challenge myself and push myself like I once did in high school while running cross country and track. I wanted to improve myself overall and be stronger and at the time where I was losing motivation. I needed a changed, so I looked into CrossFit gyms near me and the first one, I found was Beachside and I got hooked.

What was your first impression? How has that changed?
I really liked the gym when I first walked in. Everyone was working on a WOD and they were pushing themselves and sweating and that’s what I wanted to do! It was very intimidating at first because there’s so many CrossFit movements that I had never heard of and everyone looked so good doing them, but it was the challenge that I wanted. The coaches were awesome, and still are! They have guided me and coached me through proper form and it’s an environment I enjoy workout out in. Nothing has changed that’s why I keep coming back.

What was your first “bright spot”?
One of my first bright spots was squatting 175lbs because it was probably one of the first goals, I set myself and was able to achieve! But now I have squatted 210lb!

What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m just working on just getting better overall. I’ve been practicing my handstands and pullups which have improved immensely but I need to start focusing a little more on the snatch and double unders.
