Shianne has been at BeachSide since April of 2018 and since day 1 has been has had positive attitude, been encouraging to everyone around her and continues to crush new milestones – if you know Shianne you like Shianne! I am 24 years old, mother of 2 crazy dogs, one being from the Philippians one from the Camarillo shelter. Been in the Navy for 7 years, originally from small town of 98 people (Bruno, Nebraska) I swear it exists. Moved to California in December of 2012, since I can do my whole Naval career here I bought a house in the area.
What do you do for a job?
I am a Steelworker (welder) for the USN, currently training the new members of the Navy from boot camp on how the Navy works and what their part will be.
Tell us something people might not know about you:
I grew up training horses and competing in rodeos until I joined the military, and I cannot wait for the day I get to do that again.
What brought you in CrossFit in the first place?
A few of my friends got me started on one of my deployments, but at that time was not the kind of person that could self-motivate myself to do it on my own. When we got back they took me to their box and I have been hooked on CrossFit ever since.
What was your first impression, and how has that changed?
My first impression was that I would never be able to do a lot of the movements, but with a staff as dedicated as BSCFs it was easier than I thought. Now I have more confidence to do those hard movements and work toward those goals that I thought to be unattainable.
What was your first “bright spot”?
Being able to snatch more than 65 pounds was my first “bright spot” I have never been comfortable with putting weight over my head (still am not.) One day in class Coach Luis had me put on 55 pounds and helped with my form for a few weeks, and after 3 or 4 classes working at 55 pounds I have been adding ever since.
What are you working on now?
Handstand walking is next on my to do list, I know we don’t get to work on it often so I use my down time at work to hold handstands on the wall. Slowly but surely one of my New Year’s Resolutions will happen.
What’s your favorite Beachside CrossFit memory?
Beachside Beatdown, is by far my favorite memory, there is something about the energy of a box full of people cheering and the community of people who want everyone to do their best that pushes more strength out of you than imaginable.
