Alma has been a fantastic addition to our BeachSide CrossFit family since October 2020. Alma has made significant progress in the gym over the last year. She has PR’d lifts as well as lost 8 lbs of fat and gained 5 lbs of muscle. Alma brings her cheerful and confident frame of mind to every class. We are so proud of all her hard work in the gym and can’t wait to see what she can achieve this New Year!
Tell us about yourself:
Where do I begin? Born and raised in Santa Paula, I’m the youngest of 7 children, so I’ve always had a secure sense of family, and now BeachSide is an extension of that. I love my family (husband, and 2 kids), even when they drive me absolutely crazy.
What do you do for a living?
I was a stay-at-home mom for many years, then I fell into event planning, now I focus on volunteer work, but my daughter likes to jokingly say I’m a “lady of leisure”.
Tell us something most people don’t know about you:
I’m left-handed, but I do most things with a dominant right hand.
What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
I was in a rut personally and professionally and decided it was time for a fitness change, so I found a local gym close to home and decided to give CrossFit a chance. I was at Proximus for almost 5 years before they closed down (shout out to my Proximus peeps!), and then I discovered BeachSide CrossFit, and now the rest is history!
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
My first impression of CrossFit was something like, “I’m too old for this! These classes are full of people my kids’ age!”
I’ve realized that CrossFit is for everyone, and I’m not necessarily the token “old lady.”
What was your first “bright spot”?
Climbing a rope for the first time.
What are you working on now?
If I could do a pull-up, that would be great!
What is your favorite BeachSide CrossFit memory?
Having my babies join BSCF! But seriously I love that both of my kids gave BeachSide a chance. (Nick and Vanessa… they are 5:30 p.m. regulars)!
