ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

January 2019 – Kelli Kaiser

A 6:30pm staple Kelli started with us in Feb of 2018. We are just coming up on her 1 year anniversary! Since day one she has always had a smile on her face, quick to make a joke and incredibly coachable. She has lost over 6% body fat and has made incredible Gaines. Like seriously – big improvements in all areas of fitness, from the more complex Olympic lifts to aerobic improvements, all around improvements weekly:) She even had the best results for our last habit kickstarter and got top team with Cess!

Tell us about yourself:
I am 29 years old, I moved to Ventura in March 2018 and I absolutely love it. I love spending time with friends and family and my two cats.

What do you do for work?
I work for Ventura County as a child welfare social worker. I enjoy working with families and supporting them in overcoming life’s struggles.

What was your first impression and how has that changed?
When I first started BSCF I was focused on getting in better shape and getting stronger. I didn’t realize that I would also be testing me mental strength as well. Now I feel stronger both, physically and mentally every day.

Tell us something people might not know about you:
I started snowboarding in December 2017, and I instantly loved it. I’m hoping to go more often to get better, and with crossfit in my life, that will definitely give me the strength and stamina to do that. I also love to travel to new places and places to eat, so recommendations are always welcome.

What brought you to BeachSide CrossFit in the first place?
I’ve been a member at a gym for years, but I noticed my exercise routines were so uncreative and repetitive. I also didn’t have the accountability to make sure I went on a regular basis. I’ve always wanted to try crossfit but was a bit intimidated that I wouldn’t be able to keep up. Safe to say I was dead wrong to be afraid because the beachside community is nothing but supportive and encouraging. So thank you to everyone for always pushing me to do my best.

What’s your favorite CrossFit Exercise?
It’s funny because at first I hated this movement because I just couldn’t get it down. But after all the helpful techniques from all the coaches, something just clicked. Now I love snatches.

Whats your best memory of CrossFit?
My favorite memory was when I was able to do my first toes to bars. I had been doing knees to chest for sometime and after a WOD I just wanted to try one last time, and I was able to do it. Now I can do them during WODs, even if it’s only one at a time.

What are you currently working on now?
Since day one I have always wanted to be able to do a pull up. I started on ring rows and now moved up to kipping pull-ups with a band. One step at a time.

Favorite BSCF Memory
My favorite memory with BSCF would have to be the Murph WOD. Don’t get me wrong it was painful but the energy in the building was so inspiring that it pushed everyone to finish
