Tell us about yourself-
I’m originally from New Zealand. I’ve also lived in the UK and Australia. Moved to Ventura three years ago. I love board sports –surfing, kite surfing, snowboarding. I love to keep fit, strong, fast and healthy.
What do you do for a job?
Wizard
Something about yourself that others might not know?
I’m pretty good at playing guitar, played electric since my teens.
What brought you to crossfit in the first place?
My wife (Sarah) had been coming with the lunchtime crew and talked me into doing elements. This was two years ago. Can’t imagine life without it now. I look forward to it every day, being surrounded by positive people keeps me pumped! Makes working out so much fun.
What was your first impression and how has that changed?
I felt like a kook!! I was under the impression that I was pretty bad ass in the gym. The reality was, I had been doing most things wrong, it was a huge wakeup call but that was the best part. Learning proper techniques has been very motivating and has gives purpose to my training. As my strength has improved, I’m now enjoying more challenging workouts and seeing what I’m capable of.
What’s your favorite movement?
Handstand walks. They’re fun and don’t hurt!
What are you working on now?
I would love to get a bodyweight snatch. Trouble is as I get stronger, I get heavier so the target snatch weight keeps moving up. I’m confident I’ll get there soon.
Favorite Beachside crossfit memory?
Getting first place for Masters at the Beatdown 2017 with Luis (the crazy Cuban) Garcia.
