1. Tell us about yourself:
Hi! My name is Melissa and I’ve been a member of BSCF for almost 2 years. I have a supportive husband, Jake and two kiddos, Madi and Brody. I’m originally from a very small town (1 blinking red light) in Texas but have lived all over.
2. What do you do for a job?
I am fortunate that I get to stay home with my little ones right now. Before we moved to the area, I was a Health and PE teacher for a high school in Fernley, NV. I’ve taught for 10 years.
3. Tell us something people might not know about you:
I am undefeated in donkey basketball (1-0)
4. What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
I started CrossFit at The Daily Grind in Fernley shortly after I had Madi, to help with the postpartum blues. We moved to Ventura 2 months after I had Brody and found BSCF right away.
5. What was your first impression? How has that changed?
I was super impressed with how knowledgeable every coach was and how they practice what they preach! I also noticed how great of a community this place has and all the cool people that make it. Nothing has changed!
6. What was your first “bright spot”?
My first pullup!
7. What are you working on now?
Strict pull-up and toes to bar
8. What’s your favorite Beachside CrossFit memory?
I have a few, but the first workout of the very first Open I signed up for was pretty special. I was a little over 3 months postpartum and pretty new to the gym. I wasn’t sure what I was going to be able to do but my judge, Amy was so supportive and the morning class all cheered for each other.
