“While visiting California for work, I had the opportunity to visit Beachside Crossfit for two weeks. As an avid crossfitter who was first introduced to crossfit over four years ago, I have had the opportunity to visit many different boxes, been exposed to multiple coaches, and seen lots of different programming. Nate is running by far one of the best programs I have seen.
1.Excellent coaching: In just two short weeks he pointed out three very subtle changes to my form on different exercises that improved my performance. Additionally, I was extremely impressed with the emphasis on good form for all his athletes. Everyone there – young, old, male, female, advanced, beginner – consistently demonstrated correct form. This can be attributed to Nate’s knowledge and insistence on mastering fundamentals.
2. Superb programming: I still haven’t figured out the secret formula to truly excellent programming – Nate has. Each day was a challenge, but always in a different way. Nate’s emphasis on skill training ensures that you have adequate time to improve in those areas. At the same time, he provides WODs which challenge across many disciplines. In only 6, one hour training sessions, Nate had us perform skill training in double unders (3x), hand stand push ups (2x), cleans (2x), jerk, push press, snatch, and squat. Additionally, Metcon WODs were simple yet extremely challenging and effectively reinforced skill training while enhancing metabolic conditioning and mental toughness..
3. Challenging and encouraging atmosphere: As with many crossfit boxes, Beachside Crossfit’s members are hard working, tough, and positive. Each visit to the gym was an encouraging experience.
Take the time to visit Beachside Crossfit, get to know Nate and the box members, check out the programming, sign up. Based on my experience, you will be superbly rewarded.

I joined Beachside Crossfit about six months ago. I had never done anything like it in the past or had any type of coaching for strength training. Joining this community has not only changed my life but also given me a mental and physical drive that I didn’t think I could regain. If you are looking for a community that will push and support you this is the place. My strength and endurance has increased greatly along with skill and form! Nathan and the other Beachside coaches are amazing and show lots of knowledge with everything from olympic lifting to nutrition, The members of this community are amazing athletes and peopl! I highly recommend Beachside to everyone looking to physically and mentally better themselves

“Having considered myself a “self-taught” CrossFitter and not being particularly fond of the “business” side of CrossFit and CrossFit HQ, I was somewhat hesitant to join an affiliate. However, the over-crowded conditions of the Navy base’s local “globo” gym and the imminence of my permanent removal from the premises, due in no small part to the abuse being endured by the sole set of Olympic bumper plates at my hands, I decided I would give Nathan’sbox ashot. All it took was a simple 7-minute AMRAP that completely whooped my ass to convince me that this was the place for me. In the time I have spent at BeachSide CrossFit, I’ve seen not only gains and improvement in strength numbers and time domains during conditioning workouts, I’ve also experienced marked improvement in my overall knowledge base and skill level when it comes to CrossFit. Nathan’s programming is spot-on, with a bias for longer conditioning sessions with just the right amount of strength sprinkled in. The “constantly varied, functional movements executed at high intensity” aspect of CrossFit could not be more evident in Nathan’s Workout of the Day. If you’re looking for a community that will encourage self-improvement, both physically and mentally, look no further than BeachSide CrossFit.”
really had no idea what CrossFit was? This morning that scale read 185!!!!I have lost more then 80lbs of body fat and packed on muscle!!!!…….and I went down to the box and worked on getting fit……that’s me on the right 13 months of training 5 days a week and eating right, Paleo. I still can’t believe that’s me!! Thanks Nate every single thing you told me would happen has…..
KTBPs.
I also took a picture of myself before I started crossfit and a paleo diet last year….and I plan on doing a one year later comparison. Should be pretty awesome.
BeachSide CrossFit is a special type of gym. It comes with lots of good people. I have been going to BeachSide and having Nate as my coach for over a year now and because of him I am stronger, faster and healthier then i have ever been. The focus is on strength and the WODS are sometimes brutal and he will throw in a extra few prowlers, 400 meter farmers carry or a sandbag WOD post wod just to push you a little harder ( if that is what he feels is needed to help reach your particular goal, as it was for me)I owe a lot of what I have and what I will become to Nate.

I moved to ventura in early 2012 and had difficulty finding a decent gym. I have had some experience with crossfit WODs but was self-trained. I never in my life thought about joining a crossfit box.
I was a real big skeptic to joining a crossfit box, but a friend mentioned Beachside Crossfit and how difficult their WODs can be. Two months go by, and wasn’t making any progress towards my goals. I called Nathan Doud at Beachside Crossfit for a trial, showed up, and got owned. Even after my first workout, I was still skeptic. I woke up the next day sore like no other. I packed my gym bag, and came back to Beachside Crossfit.
Beachside Crossfit made me into a believer. The workouts are difficult but not impossible. The WODs are never the same, so you really have to man up and get it done. The coaches will also push you to go your hardest during the workouts. They make sure you have the correct form by going over the movements as a class but also give individual help. They are very knowledgeable, and supportive. Nathan is very helpful, from teaching handstand push ups to the paleo diet. The people of Beachside are all awesome. Day in and day out, everyone at this box has an awesome attitude.
You will definitely see results if you stick with Beachside. My running times has improved and have broken my personal records in my power lifts. I have learned new movements that I thought I wouldn’t be able to do. I am also leaner than when I first started. I owe it all to Nathan, the coaches, and members at Beachside.

If you told me a year ago I never believe that I would ever be able to put 150# over my head at 5′ 2″ 135#…. Owe it to Beachside & thanksNathan!

Having participated in sports like football, track, and power lifting when I was a kid cross training just seemed like the natural choice of workout for me. After a friend of mine told me about Crossfit I tried to push through the daily WODs posted on the main website for a little over a year. Through my many years of playing sports as a kid I had never come across anything as mentally and physically challenging and rewarding as Crossfit…something was still missing though….I absolutely found what I was missing with Nathan and the Beachside Crossfit Family…after talking to Nathan for 5 minutes I could tell he had a true passion for Crossfit and helping people make healthy changes in their
lives. Nathan coaches from experience and understands that making changes takes hard work…if you’re willing to challenge yourself on a daily basis and make a change for the better then you couldn’t ask for a better teacher and atmosphere to do that!

After crosffitting for 2+ years, I was delighted to stumble into Beachside CrossFit and learn that the “old school” CF mentality is not dead! By focusing on the basics: consistent strength training, varied met-con, and community, BSCF instantly felt like home vs. “just a place to WOD”. The WODs are challenging but scalable to all skill levels, and through Nathan’s programming and coaching, BSCF members consistently achieve fitness milestones they never thought possible. The diverse community is welcoming, supportive and motivated. I’ve never looked back from the moment I stepped in to the box and would encourage anyone interested in CrossFit, whether an unsure beginner or a seasoned CF athlete, to throw down a WOD at BSCF.

When I decided to start training with Nathan, I thought his workouts would be in addition to my spinning, running, and isolated weight training. I NEVER imagined ’his way’ would replace and negate most of what I had learned over the last 20+ years. I spent those years working out in a gym doing countless, repetitive hours alternating different forms of cardio and weightlifting. I had always considered myself to be fairly strong and physically fit, but doing CrossFit has given a whole new meaning to both words. After training with Nathan at BeachSide I can say without any reservation that he has made me stronger, leaner, and more physically fit than I ever thought I could be. Nathan has unquestionably brought my fitness to a level I did not think possible and consequently put me in the best shape of my life, both physically and mentally. He has created an environment that’s fun and addicting, where there is friendly competition and support among all of us. I am continually challenged by his WODs, encouraged by his words, impressed by his knowledge, inspired by his strength, empowered by my achievements (he pushes me to reach) and motivated by the results…and I can’t thank him enough. It’s beyond compare. I think everyone should try BeachSide, at least once; that’s all it takes…you’ll be hooked. –Rhonda Dinius

“BeachSide CrossFit is the place to workout if you are tired of traditional gyms and want to be pushed every time you walk into the ‘box’. I have worked out traditionally for years, five times a week; switching it up between weights, spin, running and stairs…this is the first time in my life I have found a routine that is not a boring routine! I love the variety and the challenge CrossFit brings. Nathan is a great trainer and continually pushes us all to the next level. I am stronger now than I was 90 days ago when I started working out with Nathan. BeachSide CrossFit is becoming a community of strong, dedicated and supportive individuals. I am excited and look forward to the ‘box’ membership growing.”

After years of working out in your mainstream gym & spending countless hours trying to stay in shape & lead a healthy life style, with less than excellent instruction & planing I realized that there had to be a better way to achieve my goals.
I had heard about crossfit & never thought much of it until I decided to check it out. Since walking into Beach Side Crossfit & doing the intro with Nathan I have never looked back. I was hooked! Not only has Crossfit put me in the best physical shape of my life, it has changed my life. The
instruction I have received from Nathan & the staff at Beach Side Crossfit has been excellent & has pushed me to achieve & overpass my goals to levels I did not know I had in me. It has led to a much happier lifestyle & friendships @ Beach Side that I am sure will last a life time. I truly believe Beach Side is the spot if you are ready to go the distance!

I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful introduction to Crossfit. Your time and dedication to each and every one of us has been simply amazing!
I was so in my running, spinning, running some more routine and so sick of not seeing a change that I knew I had to do something different! I know this is going to be life changing and can already see a difference in myself and performance when I do go out for a run! Thanks again for everything! If you’re reading this review, you are probably already interested in CrossFit. That’s the first and most important step!
Since becoming a member of BSCF (Beachside CrossFit) I have had every aspect of my life change. Not only does CrossFit provide you with COMMUNITY, but BSCF has the best around. The people here have become my family, and we all care about each other, push each other and always have a good time doing it. Someone will always be there to cheer for you, motivate you and let you know that you are capable of anything. You will become stronger, faster and healthier than you have ever been in your life.
As a community, we have a life outside of the gym together. e.g We have had a skate night, BBQ’s, hikes… So you’re not just there to “workout,” you’re there to learn how to better enjoy life, together.
Nate, the coach, isn’t just there to show you proper form, running technique, mobility, agility, breathing and so much more; he’s also there to provide you with nutrition advice, any question you may have about why CrossFit is so good for you, and he’s there to look you in the eye, and say he is your friend, and truly cares about your well-being.
BSCF changed my life, and I feel like I will know the people I met here for the REST of my life.

What makes it real is not only the quality of coaching and the work ethic of the coaching staff who really care about the individuals who walk into the door – it’s about the what Beachside has done to the CrossFit community as a whole in Ventura. By getting real CrossFit coaching, redefining what “fitness” means, and forging elite friendships within his box, members are provided the best opportunity to experience personal growth through.
As a coach, Nathan focuses on the individual’s goals, and takes care to cue each individual in his gym for proper form and intensity. He tailors each workout to the ability level of each athlete. He breeds encouragement that is contagious that shows through his members inside and outside of the gym.I will do CrossFit for the rest of my life – I owe part of it to the experiences I have had with Nathan and his gym. I find inspiration each time I participate in a WOD at Beachside.I have been doing CrossFit for 3 years, and I encourage anyone new to the sport, or Veterans of the sport to visit Nathan’s box, and get a taste of what being dominated feels like.

I believe one is only limited by their mind….so I want to thank you for coaching my mind to believe I can do something even when my body feels it can’t. Our workout sessions with you are awesome and know that are extremely difficult because at times I dread them but afterwards I feel absolutely amazing and super glad I did it.

Real Talk here.. i am a member of a crossfit gym out of town. My wife’s family lives in the ventura area so a few months back i figured i would do a drop in on a box up in Ventura/Oxnard area.. . I joined crossfit for the comraderie and the open armed community. So I decided to give Beachside CrossFit . So i hit up Nathan. I think i might have found him on facebook, but i can’t really recall. What i do recall is calling him up, and him being super pumped for me to come in and join them for a workout. Of course the rest is history! everyone there is good people with good intentions, they are all very welcoming.Beachside is extended family, i give them mad props wherever i go.. shoot! if there was 6 or 7 or 10 stars i would rate them the highest possible.. The 5 star rating does them no good.. they are way beyond that….

I had wanted to place a post about my fruitful time with BSCF.
I think a bit of background info will help you understand my story.
Xmas of 2010 I had become ill with H1N1 virus and that virus had placed me in a nice hospital stay for 4 days. After leaving the hospital and not really recovering from that virus I had then caught Pneumonia not knowing that I had come down with Pneumonia I attempted to work my way through being sick which led to 11 day stay in the hospital I was released in good enough condition were I would not require to bring O2 home with me. After a few months of home recovery I wanted to build up strength and even more my lungs capacity (having since been diagnosed with extreme Bullous Emphysema). My first thought was to walk my way back into some sort of good healthy standing. I had started walking in the first week of July and started keeping track of miles and times in mid-July via a app used on my android phone. Sometime in August I had approached Nathan about using his rowing machine just to check it out. Little did I know that I would start doing WODS. I then begin to track the WODS on 8/15/2011.
Fast forward to 9/01/2011 (Really not that long just a few short weeks really). Heading to BSCF 2 times a week I was really wondering how does all of this help a person like myself. I still walk my 5.8 miles per day when I am not at Nathans gym. I had thought from my last walk that I was able to walk faster and breathe easier. I can honestly say that my effort to breath is not as rigorous as it was before BSCF, that is the most important part of the whole experience. As anyone with Bullous knows breathing (processing’s O2 to be precise) during any sort of exertion is at a premium. I wish I had a way to measure how my lungs were processing O2 before and after starting BSCF however I do not. Yet I do have a very nice chart of how it has help me during my daily walking routine.
As we can tell from the chart. After BSCF I had dropped my times by a few minutes per mile. What is most interesting is the last 3 miles when in comparison. I noticed how the time had always increased before BSCF. The endurance was just not there. The last 3 miles are almost flat lined now. And my breathing effort is by far better even during those last 3 miles.
One cannot doubt the effectivness of the Crossfit Program.
The results speak for themselves.
Thanks Nathan!!!
Your Loving dad

Beachside Crossfit, Ventura CA. Charged me 20 fucking dollars on a drop in. But these dudes do great shit with kettlebells and have coaches that will fix your fucked up form. Update. Go here for some crazy hard Metcons
“#5 You need to workout with strangers. How many of you have been following the same program for years and years? How many of you have been to less than three crossfit gyms or had the same coaches for years? Fresh blood is a good thing and it is very important to success. I visited Beachside CrossFit in Ventura and was blown away by the programming and the level of athletes there. Same goes with Valley Crossfit in Van Nuys. An amazing facility and they have a ton of people there that can beat you. Owners, when you travel do you make a point to drop in and see some other operations? I just had a couple Outlaws over to the garage gym on friday to do a meet and greet and pound out some oly work. It was awesome to see different athletes in different atmospheres. You can learn a lot from something seemingly small.”
